Why do Russian brides love foreigners? Part 1
Tell me please, why is a foreign affair in Russia still considered to be something very prestigious and refined? The majority of marriage agencies lure Russian girls with the ad slogan "Marry a foreigner!" There is a whole army of "professional brides", traveling abroad on invitations of potential fiancés.
I have once seen such a Russian bride with a long record - she had an organizer book, in which her plans were written out clearly: "For Christmas I'm visiting Giovanni in Milan, in February I'm going to see Scott in Boston, in spring - to the Pacific with Ben, to watch the migration of the whales". Each one of the candidates would be very happy to meet the Russian beauty, their pen pal for several months, in person. Meanwhile, she takes her time to choose and takes advantage of their hospitality, going abroad at their cost. This almost looks like fraud.
Ok, let's leave the cases of open parasitism on the Western fashion for Russian brides: what makes Russian girls and women look for a foreign husband so passionately? We surveyed the clients of marriage agencies, here are the most typical answers.
"I could at last have a normal life there"
You know what many of those leaving say? "When my husband decided to move to the USA, I was against. But after three months of queuing for papers that were needed to get a visa, always stumbling over Russian red tape, corruption, idiotism of the laws that contradict each other and the couldn't-careless attitude of authorities, I began to think that I would be happy to leave this crazy country".
Such unfavorable statements are far too frequent to be neglected. There are far too many things in our country that cannot be understood logically and interpreted through the human rights convention. It is not even about the money, or, to be more precise, not about its quantity.
In Russia, you could make a good living. Still, this money does not provide you with a normal safe life, like it is somewhere in the developed countries. What does a high income mean in Russia? You would be a living illustration for the saying "My house is my castle" - feeling like you are on a siege, always behind iron gates, surrounded by four-legged and two-legged boxers, always expecting to be robbed, or your child to be kidnapped, or your husband to be killed.
The same with other things: you can buy an apartment, have it refurbished and renovated, but the communications would be like those of the other inhabitants, and you would face the same trouble of having no electricity, hot water or heating whenever they break down. Yes, concerning domestic facilities and respect to each other our country is still way behind. But do the conveniences justify all the other peculiarities of living with a foreigner?
"They are so polite and delicate"
This is one thing that really wins a Russian bride. Abroad, in developed countries, especially in the USA, great attention is given to the ability to have control over yourself, to put up a bold front. Everything should be polite and lawful, all the conflicts should be resolved judicially, and only a monkey in the zoo could scream, threaten and show his fists - because he has no lawyer. Russian women are very impressed with the heroic imperturbability of the imported suitors: what a composure! This is the real Man: a steadfast smile does not leave his steadfast face even when a lorry drives into the side of his brand new BMW.
However, having lived for half a year with such a hero, a Russian bride begins to complain: "He is so boring, so reserved, I never know what he really feels, what he wants..." And then - bingo - she suddenly finds papers for a divorce lawsuit on her table. "Why?" - she sobs. "Everything was just fine, no quarrels, no conflicts! What's wrong, what happened?!" Then she finds out from the lawyer that her husband has politely warned her seven times that if she does not stop hanging the washing on the fence, it may lead to some unpleasant consequences. Only now does she begin to understand, how serious it was and what he meant by "unpleasant consequences".
