Ukrainian woman: what she is like
A Ukrainian woman has never been a slave of a man! She has never hidden her face behind a veil, the symbol of slavery - a veil. A Ukrainian woman has never been sold and could not be bought. A Ukrainian woman chose her man herself on the Kupal night. A mother has always had absolute authority at home and in the family. The woman was not afraid to state her will, desire as a Ukrainian woman has never had a master to be afraid of. And what do we see in the Bible? "Enemy of the man is his family! Who loves his father or his mother more than me, that one doesn't merit me. And who loves a son, or a daughter more than me, that one doesn't merit me" (Matvey, 10, 36-37). Or "When somebody comes to me, and does not begin to hate his father and mother, his wife and children, brothers and sisters and even his own soul, - that one can not be my follower!" (Luka 14, 26).
All these facts confirm that the Ukrainian woman had much wider rights in her family and the society, was more respected and was free to choose the way of her life in pre-christian times. Why are those times so humiliated and discredited by the modern Christian church?
Probably, the time has come for them to face their past, to recollect and return the best. Probably, the time has come for a Ukrainian woman to cease praying someone else's gods, follow someone else's values, celebrate someone else's holidays.
Ukrainian women had a Women's Day had each Friday (men did all the work at home) and Wensday (not always). There was also Mother's Day and a lot of holidays devoted to women. Besides, there was a whole week of women's celebration of Colodea holiday.
A Ukrainian woman has always been the home and family keeper. Despite of all social, political, religious and other tests, Ukrainian women have kept a great and majestic role of woman in a Ukrainian family.
